Race Report for:- Stevenage Schoolboy Scramble Club,
Meeting Date:- 27-06-2010,
Venue:- Essex M.X.
Meeting Type:- Club Championship Round Eight.
Stevenage Schoolboys returned to the unique surface at Essex M.X. for round eight of their Club Championship, which was generously sponsored by Ely based D.A. Construction. With the circuit in pristine condition at the start of the day and the hottest day of 2010 forecast, thankfully the pre race day watering was just perfect to keep the dust completely at bay. The racing as expected kept pace with the temperature as it soared into the red hot thirties.
On a track that would inevitably get rougher as the day went on, the Auto’s were first out and once again it was Frankie Cutmore who soon stamped his authority on the 50cc section, even a late arrival at the start gate resulting in being stone last on lap one could not impede his march to three race wins and the days first maximum score. Alfie Ruckwood produced one of his best performances to secure second overall, while Aaron Brock who seemed to find the going tougher later on finished third.
Patrick Bebee continues his quest for championship honours taking top spot in the 65cc Auto Class with another three straight wins. Olivia Avis and Mathew Cooper battled each other as well as the circuit to finish just two points apart with Olivia second and Mathew third.
Tommy Clark took the Junior group by the scruff of the neck three wins from three starts, and a maximum score closing the gap to make the championship a three horse race. Taylor Hampshire also in the hunt for the championship title took second overall. With three riders finishing level on points for third Oliver Rippon with a third in race three secured the final top placing in third.
Callum Heasman stormed his way to an unchallenged three race win maximum score to top the Inter 85 class, a rejuvenated Joe Noble looked comfortably at home on the sawdust surface finishing second overall, with Nathan Attwood improving from a race one fifth to secure third on the day.
Ryan Hooks was made to work every inch of the way for his three race maximum Inter 100 score, by Adam Day who try hard as he could still had to settle for second overall. Luke Gidney with probably his best performance of the season, secured the remaining top slot with a well-deserved but over-due third place.
Kevin Gomm topped a fiercely competitive Expert Plus Group his two wins and a second giving him a four point advantage over second placed Tom Crittenden. The fast starting Aaron Wakefield just couldn’t keep the pace of the top two but still finished in a very creditable third.
The Expert Senior group despite being low in number is still amazingly high in competitiveness, Keith Gillett looks hell bent on not allowing anyone else the honour of a race win, another three race win maximum score makes him odds on favourite for this seasons title. Making a return to the club after far too long an absence Neil Jago took second overall, with Simon Steadman claiming the final top placing in third.
Shaun Springer gave a classy display of how to ride the often tricky Essex surface, three gate to flag wins secured his maximum score. Rob Nicholl and Toby Harkness monopolised the remaining top three race finishes to end the day just two points apart, with Rob Second and Toby third.
Troy Beck like the weather proved too hot for the rest, taking all three race wins along with the Open Adult top spot, Phillip Doe, with three top three finishes secured second overall, while Piers Skinner improved as the track got rougher to finish in third.
