Race Report for:- Stevenage Schoolboy Scramble Club,
Meeting Date:- 3rd / 4th -04-2010,
Venue:- Moto-Land U. K. Mildenhall,
Meeting Type:- Easter Two Day Event, Combining Club Championship Round Three,
Stevenage Schoolboys held their annual Easter Two-Day Event at Moto-Land U.K. in Mildenhall kindly sponsored by Port Plumbing Supplies of Littleport, Nr. Ely, Cambs. With the circuit, in true Moto-Land fashion, in first class condition, and a field of riders covering all abilities from novice beginners to Moto-Cross Des Nations representatives the scene was set for a spectacle, to both participate in, and to watch. The racing throughout the two days was of the highest possible calibre, with close hard fought battles right through the classes.
To benefit from the best condition of the Mildenhall sand, the Auto groups were first out, with Will Mills producing six finishes within the 50cc class top three, including four race wins to ease him to top spot. Louis Dutton also with six top three finishes took second, while Frankie Cutmore improved from a race one fifth to post his remaining five finishes within the top three, and secure third overall.
Patrick Bebee in the 65cc class was the first of only three riders to produce a six race unbeaten score card for the weekend and his fully deserved first place. Olivia Avis’s three battling seconds took her to the runner up spot.
The Junior group was topped by James Camwell after six gruelling races battling with Oliver Consterdine who recovered from a race one sixth to remain within the top three for the remaining five races and finish second overall. Carl Budge despite last race slip ups on both days still held on to third position at the close of play.
Oliver Osmaston took the Inter 85 class by the scruff of the neck, only missing out on one race win from the weekends six races, Will Keogh the only other rider to win an 85cc race over the weekend, finished in second level on points with third placed Danny Mell.
With race wins spread across four riders the Inter 100 group was always one to keep an eye on, and after mixing results from first to fifth, Rob Davidson emerged at the top of the pile benefiting from his three race wins. Chubby Hammond also with a mixed bag of scores finished the event with the final race win and second overall. Jack Eldridge recovered from a race two disaster to take third place.
Kevin Gomm was once again in top form proving uncatchable as he stormed to the weekends second six race win clean sweep and the Expert Plus top position. Brett Barker found day one a little easier than day two, a season’s best trio of seconds on day one being enough to hold him in second overall. A rejuvenated Adam Liversidge also with a better day one score finished in his seasons best in third.
Keith Gillett, with the meetings third six race win clean sweep, took his customary place at the top of the Expert Senior class, with Simon Steadman monopolising all six runner up places to secure second overall, and with four battling thirds on his card Rob Clark finished the weekend in third overall.
For the second meeting in succession the closest racing of the meeting was produced by the Inter 125 class, and after six races all that separated the top two riders was four points. James Dunn in determined fashion proved a point in favour of two-stoke machines by guiding his into top place, just ahead of second placed double race winner Harry Noakes. Jake Milward recovered from a race one slip to ease himself into a very creditable third overall in what was an ultra competitive group.
The Open Adult class was an exhibition in how to ride the dark Mildenhall sand as Swede Max Nyberg and local rider Chris Bastick took to the track with four show piece race wins to his credit Max took the top spot from Chris whose one race win really did no justice to his outstanding performance. George Baldwin never far away from the top two, both in position and entertainment value thundered his way to a not to be underestimated third.
