Stevenage S S C
Round 5, Club Championship
Report: Claire Petchell
The Stevenage Schoolboy Scramble Club held round 5 of it club championship at Motoland, Mildenhall. The track was perfectly prepared but with rain forecast the chairman was keen to get the meeting underway. Unfortunately by the time practice was over and the racing started the rain began to fall.
It was the youngest riders first off the gate in the 50cc Auto’s. Leo Shaw took the first win of the day and then went to take a maximum score. Louis Dutton followed him home in the first two races and a 3rd place in the last race was enough to secure 2nd overall. Ethan Sayer rode three good races to finish the day in 3rd. Patrick Bebee being the only 65cc Auto scored maximum points.
In the Junior class it was Jake Edey who took top spot with two second place finishes and a last race win. Shane Lock won the second race, this was enough to take overall second place and Ben Nolan had a consistant day with three 3rd place finishes. Tommy Clark finished in 4th place after winning the first race.
The top three riders in the Inter 85’s all had a race win with only 2 points separating the top two, but it was Adam Day that pipped Max Acres to the post. Tom Pallett took 3rd place.
Kieron Snowling took the honors in the Inter 100 class with two race wins and a 2nd. First race winner Jordan Holliday took 2nd place and the much improved Ellis Macbain rode well to secure the last podium position.
There was no match for Harry McKenna in the inter 125’s who scored maximum points. Bradley Banks rode three very good races to finish with three 2nd’s, but luck was not on George Foames side who rode very hard still managing to secure 3rd overall.
The Expert plus group saw some very exciting racing with Kevin Gomm taking the first race win. In the second race it was Harry Boxell who took the holeshot and lead the race for a while, then Kevin passed him but a fall in the last lap allowed Harry to take the chequered flag. The last race saw Kevin finish in 1st, Harry 2nd and Chris Gomm 3rd which was the final result too.
With the championship leader sidelined it left the Expert Senior group open. It was Simon Steadman who took top spot with Adam Rogers in 2nd and Roger Melling in 3rd.
